Campus ministry at Princeton through AIA and Baptist Chaplaincy.

Princeton AIA

Busch @ Princeton is the campus ministry led by Rev. Dr. David Buschman in partnership with Athletes in Action and the Baptist Chaplaincy. We provide Princeton students—especially athletes—with Christian fellowship, Bible study, and service opportunities through weekly large-group gatherings, team-based small groups, and outreach initiatives like “Teams and Toys.” Whether you’re looking for a supportive faith community on campus or ways to serve and grow spiritually, our ministry welcomes you to connect, learn, and serve together.

Meet Busch

David Buschman

When I began campus ministry, I was encouraged to formulate a personal mission statement. Aside from copying a Bible verse as my mandate (e.g., Matt. 22:37-40; 28:18-20; 2 Tim. 2:2), I arrived at “helping young adults take risks for God.” Twenty-five years later, this still rings true. Granted, to do this presumes students understand God and His ways adequately, but it remains my goal: helping young adults take risks for God.

I was born on Staten Island, New York, and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC. My education pilgrimage took me through Virginia Tech (BS in Mechanical Engineering), Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas (Master of Divinity) and Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Massachusetts (Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis on “Christianity in the Workplace”). I’m an ordained Baptist minister and served for eight years at West Chester University in Pennsylvania before coming to Princeton University in New Jersey in the fall of 2000.

I’m married to Lynn and we have a son and daughter, both in their early twenties. My interests include balls and books (i.e., sports and learning).

I’m honored to be a part of the Christian formation of young adults on the Princeton campus.

About AIA

Athletes in Action

Athletes in Action (AIA) is an international, interdenominational Christian fellowship open to all and geared toward college athletes. I’m affiliate staff with AIA and am honored to serve as the Director and sole staff member for the Princeton chapter.

Princeton University has a rich history of Christian-scholar athletes. Serving student athletes through fellowship, small group studies, Biblical teaching and service projects, AIA impacts and equips students to become leaders both in the arena of sports and life.

We have “GameTime” large group meetings every Thursday in Murray Dodge, where we have Christian teaching and worship, with a touch of zaniness.  Our student leadership team meets regularly for prayer, planning and mentoring. Moreover, students lead Bible studies on several athletic teams, such as lacrosse, crew, and baseball.

Each December, AIA runs “Teams and Toys,” a major service project in which all varsity teams provide Christmas gifts to local needy children.  It’s a remarkable undertaking that allows us to both serve and mobilize others to serve.  The gift wrapping party in Frist Student Center is a colorful and loud event with over 400 students!

Tiger Aid is our outreach to injured athletes on campus as a way of showing our support.

About Chaplaincy

Baptist Chaplain

As Baptist Chaplain at Princeton University, I’m honored to serve both students and administration, helping to nurture spiritual life on campus. From the moment students with a Baptist background arrive, I reach out to welcome them, introduce them to our Christian community, and connect them with local churches. In collaboration with the Office of Religious Life, I represent the Chaplaincy at opening exercises, baccalaureate, graduation, Christmas and Holy Week services, and on the chaplains’ council. I also have the privilege of preaching at the “Hour of Power,” our worship service of praise, prayer, and proclamation for staff.

Outside the University, I remain active in Baptist church life throughout New Jersey—supplying pulpits in local congregations and gathering regularly with fellow pastors for prayer and professional development. I cherish my Baptist heritage while celebrating the rich diversity of the broader Christian community here at Princeton.

I hold a Doctor of Ministry in Faith and Workplace from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where I focused on equipping college students to live out their faith as they enter the professional world.

Dr. Vince Vitale, Class of 2004 and Co-Founder of Kardia

What a joy it is to endorse David (Busch) and Lynn Buschman and their ministry! I became a Christian at Princeton University through the ministry of Athletes in Action. I know the college context well, having served as a faculty member at Princeton University and the University of Oxford and having lectured on philosophy and spoken evangelistically on dozens of college campuses.

I have worked with hundreds of campus ministry leaders. There are none that I would recommend more highly than Busch and Lynn. Busch played a substantial role in my own early discipleship. He loved me; he had time for me; he shared wise, practical advice based on his lived experience; and, with great learning and skill, he always pointed me back to the richness and life-transforming power of the Word of God. Busch challenged me to always put God first and to develop not just knowledge about God but an intimate relationship with God. Busch modelled humility at all times and encouraged me to be more concerned about being useful than about being impressive. I have never forgotten that critical advice.

David and Lynn also invited me not only into their home but into the inside workings of their family life, which is as healthy, encouraging, and Christ-centered as any family I know. What an invaluable gift it is for a college student to be able to observe and learn from the Buschman family as his or her hopes and priorities for the future are being formed.

Truly and without any qualification, David and Lynn Buschman receive my highest endorsement and my deepest gratitude. I hope you will consider supporting them in some way. I can assure you that any investment in them is an exponential investment in the kingdom of God and will result in student after student knowing they are loved, developing the spiritual disciplines to thrive at college, and graduating from college with a firm and inspired commitment to follow Jesus and serve Him faithfully for the rest of their lives.” – Dr. Vince Vitale

Jessica Ackerman, Class of 2017

I will forever be grateful that God brought Busch into my life my freshman year at Princeton. Looking back, I am surprised by how quickly I began to lose touch with my faith upon arriving at a largely secular campus. Getting introduced to Busch and the welcoming Athletes in Action community largely turned that around for me and gave me a much-needed space to center myself in the Lord. Beyond that, the support I felt from him was unending. Busch has the remarkable gift of being able to personally connect with those around him, and knew just how to strengthen my relationship with God. I am thrilled to be able to support his endeavors financially in the hopes that other Princeton students can be a part of a similar experience to mine.

Harry Flaherty, Jr., Class of 2011

Princeton is a great place but can also be very challenging. Looking back, it was often an overwhelming task, not only to balance Division 1 athletics with world-class academics, but to stand firm in Christ amidst a worldly, secular environment. David Buschman stepped into my life as a mentor and friend and helped me navigate these tasks. In the heat of a rigorous curriculum and the highs and lows of a competitive athletic career, he was a consistent supporter, fan, and confidant. I remember him hustling from game to game, from match to match, making his presence felt by those he came to support. Not only did you feel Busch was your biggest fan, you also thoroughly enjoyed the conversations with him. Busch never turned down an opportunity to meet with us, and no question or sentiment was too bizarre or controversial for him to tackle alongside us. He seemed to have references, resources, and refreshing thoughts on almost any topic or challenge I wanted to engage. Having Busch as our Athletes in Action leader made for an enriching four-year experience, and the Lord used him instrumentally in my spiritual growth through college. I still lean on him to this day as a mentor and friend.

Erik Stiller, Class of 2006

Busch’s ministry was a huge blessing to me as a student, and has continued to impact me since I left Princeton. He was a friendly face when I arrived in what seemed like a whole new world. He was a stable source of encouragement and wisdom as I navigated the challenging experience of being a Christian at Princeton. And he has continued to be both a mentor and a friend as I experience professional highs and lows and as I grow as a husband and father. I sincerely believe that Busch plays a unique and extremely valuable role on campus. His experience and tenure along with his conscious investment in building strong relationships across ministries and university bodies position him as both a connector and an influencer on campus. He offers context and stability in a world of constant change, and he does it with humility and a genuine desire to see all Christian ministry at Princeton flourish. I consider the opportunity to partner with Busch, both financially and in prayer and encouragement, a great honor and joy!
